Liz oversees assessment research and product development in the Foundation. She has directed a large number of assessment development projects, primarily in the area of literacy, and many on a national scale. This includes the key stage 2 tests in English reading and writing between 1997 and 2012, taken by all 11-year-olds in England and the national literacy and numeracy assessments for Wales 2010-2016. She has also undertaken work in assessment for learning and other assessment research, in particular looking at access arrangements / accommodations. Between 2001 and 2013 she was the National Research Coordinator for the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS), an international comparative survey of the reading skills of 9-10-year-olds, and reading consultant for PIRLS 2016 and 2021. Liz has a wide range of teaching experience including as deputy headteacher of a combined school, establishing and managing an integrated department for children with learning difficulties, and working in a secondary special school.
